June 2025 proposals

Proposed bills would alter dismissal protections and 90-day trials, license up to 15 online casinos, and create a stalking offence.

• Proposal to change employment protections — It would change personal grievance rules, set a pay threshold for some dismissal claims, and expand 90-day trials.
• Proposal to regulate online casinos — It would create up to 15 online casino licences and ban unlicensed online gambling and advertising.
• Proposal to create a stalking offence — It would create a specific stalking and harassment offence and change related rules across several laws.
• Proposal to change overseas investment checks — It would reduce compliance costs and speed up decisions for some overseas investments while keeping checks on sensitive assets.
• Proposal to enable offshore renewable energy — It would create permits, safety zones, and cleanup duties for offshore renewable energy projects.
• Proposal to change resource consents — It would make targeted changes affecting infrastructure, housing growth, farming, natural hazards, and resource consent processes.
• Proposal to limit farm-to-forest conversions — It would limit whole-farm conversions to exotic forestry that receives emissions-trading credits, while allowing some less versatile land conversions.
• Proposal to fund government temporarily — It would let the Government spend and make capital payments before the main yearly funding bill passes.
